Summer/winter schools

This task is dedicated to developing activities related to internationalisation “at home”. The international summer/winter schools aimed at doctoral students support development of their academic skills and experience indispensable to working in an international academic and research environment and are a very efficient tool for increasing the internationalisation of doctoral programmes. By participation in summer/winter schools, doctoral students gain a wide range of knowledge and competences that should facilitate to successfully cope with the challenges of implementing doctoral projects in the international environment. First of all, doctoral students will obtain an opportunity to attend high level courses grouped in a short time range of one week, meet in person and learn from internationally renowned experts and academics in a particular research area. Second, participants will have the possibility to meet other doctoral students, get together and initiate personal contacts that can result in future international cooperation, scientific internships, joint publications, joint researchers proposals, etc.

We plan to organise four summer/winter schools in Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST) in the following schedule: winter 2022, summer 2022, winter 2023, summer 2023. In each case, an open call (competition) for a school proposal will be disseminated among WUST professors of all 12 disciplines of science. Submitted applications will be evaluated by a competition jury selected from members of the Doctor School Board in order to decide on the best proposal based on detailed rules developed when the Project begins.

It is assumed that summer/winter school will last 5 days and provide 30 hours conducted by invited lecturers (visiting professors) and a poster session to boost the networking among participants. However, other types of activities are also allowed during the school according to a particular proposal and specific features of a given research area (e.g., hands-on workshops, demo presentations). It is assumed that every lecturer will deliver 6 hours of lectures or other types of training. In the case of travel restrictions (due to COVID pandemic), remote presentations will be allowed. The Project will cover the cost of lecturers fees and catering for all participants. There will be no admission fees for participants (doctoral students). However, participants from outside WUST will cover their travel and accommodation costs on their own. The maximum number of attendees will be 40: 20 from WUST and 20 from other universities and institutions. The participants will be qualified based on their applications and qualification rules, which will be prepared in detail and approved by the Doctoral School Board, when the Project begins.
